Traveling up the Fraser River Valley, on the north bank you’ll find Maple Ridge nestled below the Blue Mountains. Many of the residents consider themselves to be living in a countrified suburb of Vancouver. Maple Ridge is the "Horse Capital of British Columbia," with a great network of riding or hiking trails here and in nearby Golden Ears Provincial Park. So, Saddle up!
Along the Fraser, Abbotsford, dubbed the "Raspberry Capital of Canada," is one of the most beautiful and productive agricultural areas in British Columbia. The bounty of these farms is celebrated each summer during the Abbotsford Berry Festival. In August, Abbotsford's clear blue skies play host to the roar and excitement of one of North America's top air shows, the Abbotsford International Airshow.
Further up the Fraser is the town of Chilliwack. Make sure you visit Cultus Lake and the Bridal Falls. Mountains of adventure await you in Chilliwack.
In the deep wilderness at the base of the Cascade Mountains, the pretty little town of Hope sits on a wide sweeping curve of the mighty Fraser River, guarding the entrance to the Fraser River Canyon. This is truly the Chainsaw Carving Capital of Canada, with over two dozen large wooden sculptures scattered throughout the downtown core. Famous Hell's Gate, in the scenic Fraser Canyon, is nature at its most magnificent. Take a thrilling ride across the canyon on the airtram!
