Standards Checklist

 

Cleanliness Daily housecleaning of guest areas, no residual odours. (i.e.: smoke, pets, cooking, mildew)
Tidiness Well kept exterior, tended gardens, pathways. Guest areas neat and free of clutter
Safety Good exterior lighting for parking, walkways doors, stairs and all interior guest areas. Pets under control. Locks for safety/ privacy. Operable windows. Telephone & emergency numbers available.
Maintenance Exterior and interior well kept. Furnishings and fixtures in good repair. Adequate hot water, pressure, electrical service.
Comfort Comfortable beds and seating. Reading light, natural light. Window covering for privacy A/C or fans, screened windows, good ventilation and temperature control. Quiet. Accessible, well furnished, common areas indoors and out.
Welcome Host(s) is friendly and available to check in and orient guests (occasional alternative arrangements). Guest entrance is obvious, inviting, clean, tidy and well lit.
Supplies Guest room basics include liquid or wrapped soap, waste receptable, drinking glasses, nightlight, flashlight, hooks and hangers, tissues, extra toilet roll, pillow and blanket available, good quality and quantity of fresh linens, replaced every third day of the stay.
Breakfast Provided on the premises.
Hospitality Cheerful helpful host(s), not intrusive, facilitates reservations and directions. Courteous and prompt in response to complaints, "guest rules" at a minimum.
Ethics Truth in advertising, no unadvertised price increases, unfair exchange rate or service charges, fair and stated cancellation and deposit policy. Honestly and accurately represented in promotional materials. (i.e.: shared, private or ensuite bath, below ground level or 3rd floor, location, smoking, pets and "slippered" home)
Value for $ Returning guests, positive feedback, guest referrals.

Notes: Historically designated homes may have some limitations (i.e.: room size).
Cottages may have limited services (i.e.: no breakfast, weekly cleaning).
