In the heart of South Western Ontario lies the city of London, also known as the Forest City. The tenth largest City in Canada and the regional centre for Southwestern Ontario, London's geographical focal point is the Forks of the Thames River, which winds through the city. Today's city fans out well beyond the original site but the downtown remains a primary commercial and retail centre with residential areas that include heritage buildings and many entertainment facilities. Beautiful parks and pathways and great sports facilities exist aplenty in the Forest City. Each August, pilots have come from as far away as Germany and Japan to participate in London's Hot Air Balloon Festival.
London is the hub of Southwestern Ontario and has many leisure options providing an eclectic blend of history and convenience, excitement and contentment, traditional and originality.
To the east is the city of Woodstock, a vibrant city with a great variety of accommodation. Just to the south of London is St. Thomas. Surrounding St. Thomas are numerous picturesque towns, lakeside villages and historic hamlets, each with their own unique charm.
Set at the mouth of Kettle Creek on Lake Erie, Port Stanley is Elgin County's playground. As the largest natural harbour on Lake Erie's north shore, it is often a haven for ships and lakers. Boating facilities, a lively summer theatre group, fine dining, numerous interesting shops and of course, a warm sandy beach keeps bringing visitors back to Port Stanley year after year.
